Jesus did not say the branch must produce fruit by trying harder. He said the branch must abide in the vine. Fruit is the result of connection.
This is essential for recovery. A tired man often tries to recover by forcing more output from a depleted soul. But Christ calls John first to remain in Him.
Abiding means returning to Christ before returning to the problem. It means receiving before producing. It means letting the Word, prayer, obedience, confession, worship, and trust become the living connection through which Christ supplies what John cannot generate.
Success without abiding becomes pride. Work without abiding becomes exhaustion. Ministry without abiding becomes performance. Leadership without abiding becomes control.
Reflection
Am I abiding, or am I generating?
Where am I trying to produce fruit without remaining close to Christ?
What daily connection to Christ needs to be restored first?
Response
Today I will not measure success first by how much I accomplish. I will measure it first by whether I remained connected to Christ while doing what was in front of me.
