Hope

Elderly man kneeling and praying inside a rustic stone cave with scrolls nearby

Lord, my hope is in You.

You know where I am right now. You know the weight I am carrying, the responsibilities in front of me, the uncertainty I cannot resolve, and the questions I do not know how to answer. You know the things I have tried to build, the things that have not gone as I expected, the losses, the disappointments, the pressure, and the weariness that comes from trying to hold too much together.

Forgive me for the times I have depended more on my own experience, planning, judgment, and determination than on You. I have spent much of my life solving problems, carrying responsibility, and trying to find a way forward. But Lord, there are things before me now that I cannot fix by intelligence, effort, money, experience, or willpower.

So I come back to You.

My hope is not in a company surviving. My hope is not in a contract appearing, a payment arriving, a problem disappearing, or circumstances suddenly becoming easier. I ask You for provision, wisdom, and open doors, but my hope must be deeper than any of those things.

My hope is in You.

You have carried me through years I never thought I could endure. You have been present in joy and in grief, in success and in disappointment, when the road was clear and when I could barely see the next step. You have not changed.

Lord, I am tired of trying to carry tomorrow today.

Give me enough light for the next step. Give me wisdom for the decisions that are mine to make and the humility to leave the things I cannot control in Your hands. Keep fear from making my decisions for me. Keep discouragement from convincing me that the story is finished when You are still at work.

Help me lead well. Help me treat people with grace even when I am under pressure. Help me fulfill my responsibilities with integrity. Give me courage to face hard facts without losing faith and faith strong enough that I do not have to deny the hard facts.

And Lord, if some things I have built must change, teach me to release them without believing that I have lost You. If You redirect my work, reshape my plans, or lead me into a season I did not expect, help me follow faithfully.

More than rescue from difficulty, I ask that You make me more like Christ through it.

Teach me to love You more than I love success. Teach me to trust You more than I trust my own understanding. Teach me to seek Your kingdom before my own security. Teach me to recognize Your daily mercies even when I cannot yet see the larger answer.

Watch over my family. Guard my home. Give me strength for the work You have placed before me and rest when the day’s work is finished. Help me remember that I am Your servant, not the savior of every situation around me.

Tonight I place before You the things I cannot solve.

The business.
The finances.
The obligations.
The decisions.
The people depending on me.
The ministry.
The future.
My own fears and regrets.

I place all of it in Your hands.

I do not know exactly what tomorrow will bring, Lord, but I know who You are.

You are faithful.
You are merciful.
You are sovereign.
You are my refuge.
And because of Jesus Christ, I belong to You.

So when my mind begins trying to solve everything at once, bring me back to this simple confession:

My hope is in You, Lord.

Not only when You answer the way I want.
Not only when the numbers improve.
Not only when doors open.
Not only when I understand.

My hope is in You because You are God, and You are faithful.

Lead me tomorrow.

For tonight, let me rest in You.

In the name of Jesus Christ,

Amen.
